Computer Forensics
Computer forensics is the systematic analysis of computer media using court and industry accepted software and techniques. At GCIS, we believe it is also the fusion of technology and an investigative mindset. We use this approach on all computer forensic cases to assist the client in forming the appropriate plan of action for their particular situation. Computer forensics is commonly used on the following case types:
- Criminal
defense cases
- Theft
of intellectual property
- Family
law (divorce cases)
- Probate
cases (search for assets)
- Violation
of non-compete clauses
- Unauthorized
use of corporate networks

Electronic Discovery
In all federal civil cases (and many state cases), E-Discovery must be addressed by the parties as a formal part of the civil procedures. GCIS recommends you have an expert with you as part of these discussions to provide you with the technical expertise needed to navigate these complex issues. When the actual data collection takes place, GCIS stands ready to assist you and your clients with a unique approach to E-Discovery Consultation services. At GCIS, we believe there should be a partnership between your expert and the client’s IT staff. Many plaintiffs and defendants do not have the resources to outsource E-Discovery collection, so they opt to do the collection itself. Typically, IT personnel do not have the training or experience to properly identify, collect, and preserve (with a chain of custody) evidence. This leads to allegations of spoliation which can have adverse effects on their case. GCIS proposes to provide training to the client’s IT personnel in proper evidence collection and documentation, then can oversee the process to ensure the proper procedures are followed. This enables the client to use in-house personnel to perform the most time consuming (and costly) steps, yet by having GCIS oversee the operation, ensures an unbiased third party can testify to the proper application of the process. This process represents a SIGNIFICANT cost savings to the client.
Incident Response Services
Computer incidents range from suspected computer hackers to the inappropriate use of a computer by an employee and every other imaginable adverse event involving your network. A timely, appropriate response is VITAL to ensuring you retain all your options after the matter is resolved. The most significant option you will need to consider is to have the perpetrator prosecuted. Should this become necessary, your initial response will dictate whether or not you will have all the evidence the prosecutor will need to prove the case in court. GCIS has the real world experience to respond to any computer incident and properly seize very volatile computer evidence. Not only does GCIS have incident response experience, we have personally trained FBI agents, as well as law enforcement personnel from state and local agencies in the art of incident response.
